In a historic class action settlement within our industry, IKO Organic Shingles has reached an agreement to pay 7.5 million dollars to resolve class member claims. The class action alleges that IKO Organic Shingles were negligently designed and manufactured in a manner that, under normal conditions and usage, would result in premature failure.

And although the defendants (IKO Organic Shingles) deny such claims, it is clear that there is sufficient evidence to back the claims and warrant a settlement of this magnitude.

Over the last two decades, issues with defects and premature failure in asphalt shingles have been steadily climbing.  As manufacturers try to save money by cutting corners and using inferior materials in production, many homeowners have been paying the price.

This particular litigation effects consumers in Canada, but many homeowners throughout the United States have also been plagued with prematurely declining asphalt roofing products.  We expect to see more litigation in years to come as these roofs simply don’t live up to the promises made by the manufacturers.

And for those in the market now for a new roofing system, we highly recommend a permanent metal roofing option. Why take the chance with anything less.
